Sweden is Europe's third largest country in area: 1600 km long. Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is built on 14 islands, and a real beauty on water. One third of its area is covered by water and the water is so clean that salmon can be caught in the city centre. Where you also can swim - if you do not prefer the archipelago with its 24 000 islands.

Norrland is the sparsely populated, northern part of the country. You will find lots of wilderness, with forests, lakes, big rivers, enormous marshes and high mountains along the border to Norway. Great for hiking. Largest cities are Sundsvall, Umeå and Luleå.

Svealand, in the central part of the country, includes the main cities Stockholm and Uppsala. .

Götaland, the southern part of the country, including the islands of Öland and Gotland. The largest cities in Götaland are Gothenburg in Västergötland and Malmö in Skåne.
