TRAVEL IN BRAZIL - IGUAZU FALLS
Iguacu Falls are located along the border of Brazil ("Iguaçu") and Argentina ("Iguazú") near the border with Paraguay. The work Iguaçú means "big water" in the tupi-guarani etymology. The Iguaçú river, which forms the Falls eighteen km before the river meets the Paraná river, overcomes a ground unevenness and plunges 65m with a width of 2,780m. They are similar in beauty to Victoria Falls, having lush vegetation, and numerous cascades, though are not as powerful or grand. The number of individual falls changes depending on if it is the rainy season or not. After taking a wide turn and the rapids, the bulk of the falls plunges laterally into the deep erosion gorge, the Devil's Gorge. This 85m high waterfall is the one most appreciated by tourists; its shape resembles a horseshoe. The most spectacular sightseeing of the park is the Iguaçú Falls, which form a 2,700m wide semi-circle, while the waterfalls filled visitors with awe as they watch the water foam that plunges down from a height of 72m.The Park can be reached from Foz do Iguaçú, 28km from the city on the BR 469 - The Cataratas Highway. The entrance gate is on the 18km milestone of the Cataratas Highway and visitors have to travel 12km inside the Park to reach the Iguaçú Falls. The Iguaçú National Park is conveniently located only 5km from the Foz do Iguaçú International Airport and the Convention Center, and is close to all major hotel in the area.Iguaçu National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site.
